About me
My name is Erin McNamara. I am originally from the Philadelphia area but currently live in Kansas City, MO. After having worked in the travel industry for 13 years, I knew I wanted to make a career change. Over the years, I developed a passion for eating, cooking and sharing delicious food. I have also always been very interested in nutrition and living a healthy lifestyle. I realized I wanted to incorporate these interests into my new career choice. So, I decided to make my transition from the travel industry to the world of dietetics and I couldn't be more excited! I graduated in the summer of 2011 with an Associate Degree in Pre-Dietetics from Barton Community College. I am currently attending Kansas State University to receive my Bachelor Degree in Dietetics. I look forward to completing this journey and entering into the world of dietetics!
Philosophy
Seriously, I LOVE food. I love eating it. I love cooking it. But I did not always have such a positive relationship with food. Growing up, I always felt food was the enemy. I can remember thinking about all the food that I couldn't or shouldn't have. I felt in order for me to be "healthy" I had to deprive myself of many things I really enjoyed. After years of fighting it, I finally gave in, embraced food and never looked back. I have never been nor felt more healthy!
I hope to help people embrace food and show them that food is not the enemy. Food is part of all our lives and we should enjoy it! I don't believe in wasting time on food that doesn't taste good. I hope to educate people on how to have a positive, healthy relationship with food. I want to show people that being or eating healthy doesn't mean you can't enjoy the things you love. Being healthy is about making informed lifelong decisions.
Eat fresh. Eat local. Eat good food. Keep moving.
